Entry 1079
Tuesday 10th September 2019I haven't seen much of Nikki today, and to be honest it's been quite nice!
Mike, Mum and Sci-Fi Cyn came to Sandown to see me. They brought Leo, and we all had a chat over a cup of tea in The Beach Café. It was nice to see Leo and spend some time with him. "Your Auntie Meryl gets out of hospital tomorrow," said Mum. "Oh good," I said, "Tell her I'll pop round to see her the day after tomorrow when I come to Cowes." "Yes, well I hope you can spare a thought for me," said Mum, "I'll be in that house with your screaming son and that moaning old woman." "I thought Trudy and Naomi said they'd help out?" I said. "Well, yes," said Mum, "But they don't have to live with the crabby old mare. If she carries no winding me up, I'll put her back in hospital before she's had to chance to recover from getting out of it. Why don't you tell Nikki to get lost and come and move back in?" "Mum, I'm not going through all this again," I said, "I want to be there whilst Nikki's pregnant with my baby." "How's it all going with you and Nikki?" asked Sci-Fi Cyn. "Tense," I said, "She nearly set fire to the house the other day." "What!?" gasped Mum. "I know it's not great," said Mike, "But it's not that shocking is it? I mean we've all set fire to a few houses in our time, haven't we?" "Err.... No Mike," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "I really don't think we have." "What happened?" asked Mum in an outraged tone. I explained what went on and this just made Mum get even angrier. "I can't believe you're having a baby with that mad b*tch," snapped Mum, "Her behaviour is getting worse and worse by the day. Your house could have gone up in flames and you'd be nothing but a pile of charred remains." "Mum, it wasn't that bad," I said. "No" snapped Mum, "Don't start all that again. "Start all what again"? I asked. "All that sticking up for her and defending her. I didn't like it before, and I certainly don't like it now." "Mum, a bunch of flowers caught on fire and I quickly put the fire out," I said. "Did she hurt you?" asked Mike, "I swear to God if she hurt you, I'll..." "Everyone just calm down," I said, "The only thing that got hurt was a bunch of flowers. I can handle this. She knows I won't put up with any of her cr*p." "Yes, but Luke, she's seriously injured you before," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "We're worried she might do it again. It's all well and good you saying that you're not taking any cr*p from her but that'll be no good if she tries to stab you again." "I can't believe we're even talking about this," said Mum, "Luke – you're away from your son, you're away from your friends, you're living with a violent nutter. You should be back with me and your Auntie – where you son is! I know the mad b*tch is pregnant but you don't need to live with her." "Meryl's pregnant!" gasped Mike. "She means Nikki," I said, "Look, I know you're all worried and I appreciate that you care about me but remember, Nikki wanted me to move back in with her. She wouldn't want me there if she didn't want me to be a father to the baby, and I can hardly be a father if she's stabbed me to death." "Luke, that's a logical way of looking at things," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "And you should know by now that Nikki is not logical. She emotional and irrational... and violent. She acts in the heat of the moment without thinking. Her actions are fuelled by anger." "She doesn't want you there to be a Dad," said Mum, "She wants you there to control you. I mean, I don't even see why you have to be there at all. I get that she's pregnant with your baby, but you could live with me and your Auntie and pop to Sandown every couple of days to check in on Nikki. You don't need to bl**dy live with her." "Lynn might have a point," sad Sci-Fi Cyn. "If you popped back to Sandown every couple of days one of us could go with you so you're not on your own with her," said Mum. "That does sound like a good idea," said Mike. I stopped and thought about what Mum suggested. "Look," I said, "I know you all mean well, but I just have to be there whilst she's pregnant. I know she can be handful, and there's been a few ups and downs, but please trust me. I can deal with her." Mike, Mum and Cyn exchanged uncertain looks. They clearly weren't convinced. "Anyway," said Mike, "Have you thought of any baby names yet?" "I haven't really thought about it," I said. "No," said Mum, rolling her eyes, "You've been too busy putting fires out. Literally." I know that Mum cares, but her b*tchy comments are getting on my nerves. I asked Mum to tell Ash that I'd pop round to see him the day after tomorrow when I visited Cowes. "I've told Nikki that he's going to come round to have a few drinks," I said. "I bet she's not happy about that," said Mum. "Well, it's tough," I said, "I've told her I'm inviting Ash around and if she doesn't like it, she can just deal with it." "Can I come round?" asked Mike, "We can have a boy's sleep over?" "Well, I think me and Ash need some time on our own," I said. Mike lowered his head and sulked. "Mike, don't be like that," I said, "After what you tried to do to Nikki the other day, I think it's best you keep your distance for now." "God, I hate that Nikki," said Mike, "I wish she was dead." "Well, she's not," I said, "And if she was dead my baby would be dead, and I don't want my baby to die. OK!?"
When I got back home Nikki was sat on the sofa watching a DVD. Some 90s comedy starring Adam Sandler. "You alright?" I asked, as I walked into the living room. Nikki adopted a stern expression, ignored me and carried on watching the film. "Nikki?" I said, "You alright?" Nikki turned her head and looked away from me. "Oh, you're ignoring me, are you?" I asked, "That's what you're doing is it?" Again, Nikki ignored me. I wasn't sure if I should keep trying to engage her in discussion, or if I should go upstairs to my room. Despite my better judgement I decided to be the bigger person and continuing making an effort. "It was nice to see Leo," I said, "Oh, and Mike said something. He asked me if we'd thought of any baby names? I suppose it's something we should talk about. What do you think? Have you had any ideas?" Nikki picked up the remote control, turned off the DVD, placed the remote control back on the table, stood up, walked past me and walked upstairs. She was behaving like a right moody cow, but on the plus side it meant I had the living room to myself and I could watch a few DVDs.
It's early evening now and Nikki hasn't come downstairs once since she walked off in a huff. I don't care. It's nice to have the living room to myself, chill on the sofa and watch some films. I have even been thinking about baby names, but there's no point in me coming up with ideas without speaking to Nikki, but I need to catch her on a day where she isn't kicking off like a wild nutter or stomping around like a moody teenager. I can't decide if I prefer her shouting and screaming and getting all aggressive, or her being all silent and being in a mood. At least I don't have to dodge knives and put fires out. I'll try and talk to her tomorrow about baby names.
