Entry 1027
Saturday 20th July 2019Well after yesterday's drama I'm glad that today's been a bit of a quiet day.
I met up with Mike and Sci-Fi Cyn at The Beach Café in Sandown, and they brought Roz and Trudy with them. Trudy told me she'd told Roz everything about what happened yesterday. "You and your big mouth," I snapped, "We promised Blade and Helen we wouldn't say anything." "Luke, calm down," said Roz, "It made sense to tell me. I knew all about Tara stopping the nukes, so it's logical that I know about everything else that's gone on. Mind you, after what Trudy told me, I had trouble taking it all in. Blade and Helen have got infected underground in GRID HQ." "Well, they're not technically under the ground," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "They're within GRID HQ, but below surface level." "Who else have you told?" I snapped at Trudy. "No one," Trudy snapped back. "TJ knows something's going on though," said Mike. "How does he know?" I asked. "Well, I told him something was going on, but that we couldn't tell him," said Mike. "Jesus Christ," I said, rolling my eyes, "We promised we'd keep it to ourselves." "TJ guessed something was going on because me and Trudy kept whispering to each other," said Mike, "We had to tell him something. Don't worry though. We didn't tell him what happened yesterday." "I'm surprised you're OK with other people finding out what happened yesterday," I said to Sci-Fi Cyn. "Let's just say I don't feel as loyal to Jon Blade as I once did," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "Making mistakes and getting stressed is one thing, but covering up murder is not something I'm OK with. Making out there was a gas explosion when it's actually your own incompetence that killed people, and letting a woman kill innocent people so you can keep hiding your own infected loved ones underground when everyone else has had to kill theirs... I've lost a lot of respect for Jon." "Yeah, well let's just hope he doesn't find out that you lot have been opening your mouths." "Oh, chill out you moaning m*nge," said Trudy, "He's going over to the mainland to look for cows and sh*t isn't he? We're not going to have to worry about Blade for a while." "We've all had a chat," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "And whilst I'm really unimpressed with Jon and Helen's behaviour, I'm going to stay working for GRID. It'll mean I can keep an eye on things and keep an eye on Helen." "And I'm going to keep giving them blood and doing these tests Helen wants me to do," said Trudy, "I might get to find some stuff out." "I saw Jon this morning," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "He looked tired, but he said he's deactivated the bombs under Cowes, Newport and Sandown. He couldn't move them, but he assures me they've been deactivated." "Can we believe him?" asked Roz, "He's proved that he's capable of lying and keeping secrets." "I've checked," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "Well, I haven't checked everywhere but I was there with Jon when he deactivated the bombs under Cowes. It looks like he's stuck to his part of the bargain." "But we haven't stuck to ours, have we?" I said, "Roz knows now, and it sounds like TJ's sniffing around." "Luke, you know you can trust me," said Roz. "And you don't need to worry about TJ," said Trudy, "I'll deal with him." "Jon's going to be going to mainland with a team of soldiers tomorrow," said Cyn, "He's going to make an announcement in the morning and leave in the afternoon." "Have you told Nikki about what happened?" Mike asked me.
"No!" I exclaimed, "I promised I wouldn't tell anyone." "Yeah, but should you really keep secrets from your girlfriend?" asked Mike, "Especially as..." "Especially as what?" I snapped, angrily assuming Mike was going to make some sort of reference to Nikki being violent. "Well..." said Mike with a nervous tone in his voice, "I just don't think it's a good idea to keep secrets from your girlfriend. What will she do if she finds out you've lied to her?" "She'll probably kick the sh*t out of him," said Trudy. "No, she won't," I snapped, "There's a difference between lying and keeping a secret. I'm not lying. I'm just not telling her wat happened yesterday. If she finds out, which I don't see how she will, I'll just say that Blade made me promise to keep my mouth shut. Anyway, she doesn't really ask what I get up to when I come to Cowes to see you lot. She's just not interested."As we all sat gathered around the table drinking our hot beverages, we continued talking about the current situation. "I think next time Trudy's at GRID HQ she should get down there, stand near those infected and watch as their heads explode," said Mike. "I'm tempted," said Trudy, "Especially as Blade might be gone for a while." "Helen's still around," I said. "I can deal with Helen," said Trudy. "Yeah, but she knows how we managed to get down into that room," I said, "That means she'll be extra vigilant and be keeping an eye out. Anyway, we agreed that we'd be OK with Kayleigh and Eleanor staying there for now." "Reluctantly," said Mike. "Yeah, but we still agreed," I said. "Luke, you know as well as I do, two infected can't stay underground like that forever," said Roz. "Yes, I know," I firmly said, "And I told Helen and Blade that this solution was only a temporary one." "So, what's the long-term solution?" asked Sci-Fi Cyn, "We can't move them to The Hive because Natasha will want to know where they've come from." "I think Natasha will be more interested in looking after the infected," I said. "Maybe," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "But if she finds out that Helen and Blade were hiding their infected loved one's underground whilst they were pedalling the belief that all infected needed to be killed, she won't keep that to herself." "I'm not too sure," said Roz, "I think she might understand WHY Helen and Blade kept their loved ones underground. They did it because they didn't want them killed. They wanted them kept alive-ish, in case there was ever a cure. That sort of thinking lines up with Natasha's thinking." "Yes, but if people find out about the double standards, there'll be Hell to pay," said Sci-Fi Cyn. "Why should we give a flying f*nny flap what happens to Helen and Blade?" said a firm Trudy, "They've done what the f*ck they've wanted to do without giving a toss about us. Why should we give a toss about them?" "I'm thinking about everyone on the island," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "Not Helen and Jon." "Maybe we should just wait for Blade to get back from the mainland and then confront him and Helen about their infected loved ones," said Roz. "That might be the best idea for now," said Sci-Fi Cyn.
I start my volunteer work with Mike on Monday. What with all the drama that went on yesterday I forgot all about that. I haven't told Nikki anything about yesterday. I do feel a bit uncomfortable about keeping secrets from her, especially given all the heated arguments that went on between us, but I really don't think I can break my promise. I'm sure Nikki will understand if she ever finds out. It doesn't really affect her, and I don't think she'd be that interested anyway.
