What a day! It all kicked off with Naomi and after what she did and said today, I can say that our friendship is well and truly over.
It was turning out to be an average sort of a day; I'd been to work, spent some time with Leo and in the afternoon watched a DVD with Nikki round at her place. Once the film had finished, I told Nikki that I was going to go round to Naomi's and try and sort this mess out. Nikki rolled her eyes. "Oh," I said, with a cheery smile on my face, "You can roll your eyes, but I can't roll mine?" Nikki's eyes widened and she raised her eyebrows. She did not look happy. "It doesn't matter," I quietly said, trying to change the subject and avoid an argument, "I'm only joking. You wait here. I'll go see Naomi and I'll see if we can sort this all out." "I think you're wasting your time," said Nikki. "I know you do," I said, "But maybe it's worth one last shot." Nikki said she needed some milk, and I needed to get some bits from Sainsbury's for Leo and Auntie Meryl, so we agreed to walk into town, pop into Sainsbury's and then Nikki would go home, and I'd go to see Naomi. It didn't exactly turn out like that.
When Nikki and I arrived at Sainsbury's, Nikki asked me to go in and get her some milk. "Why don't you come in with me?" I asked. "No," said Nikki, "Mike might be working, and he'll probably end up talking to you for ages. He doesn't like me, and I don't like him. Anyway, you're going in to get some stuff anyway so just pick me up some milk. I'll wait out here."
As soon as I walked into the supermarket Mike saw me and approached me. "Hi babes," he said, "I caught a shoplifter today. You should have seen me. I had him in such a tight headlock I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head. I get off in twenty minutes. Do you want to go for a drink?" "I can't," I said, as I continued walking down the aisles and filling up my basket, "I've got to get this stuff back to Auntie Meryl, and then I need to see Naomi." "Well, what about after?" asked Mike. "I was going to spend some time with Leo," I said. "After that?" said Mike. "Well, me and Nikki were going to cook something together," I said. Mike lowered his head and looked sulky. "What?" I bluntly said, noticing his expression. "You and her are always doing something together," said Mike in a stroppy and sulky tone. "Mike, she's my girlfriend," I said, "Of course we're going to do stuff together." "Yeah, well you're supposed to do stuff with your friends too," said Mike. "Yeah, I know that," I said. "Then why did you cancel our date?" asked Mike. "Our what?" I exclaimed. "You know," said Mike, "Our get-together; our night out." "I told you why," I said, "Nikki's going through a tough time at the moment. I told you about all those horrible letters." "Yeah, well, I'm going through a tough time not seeing you," said Mike, "We used to see each other every day, and now we hardly see each other at all." Mike continued to express his disappointment as I continued walking up and down the aisles and filling my basket. Once I paid, I stood in the store entrance with Mike and we continued talking. "Look," I said, "Once all this drama with these nasty letters is sorted and Nikki isn't as upset as she is now, we can sort a night out." "You promise?" asked Mike with an excited look on his face.
As Mike continued talking, I peered over his shoulder, looked outside and noticed that Nikki was talking to Naomi near the post box. I frowned with confusion which was quickly replaced with concern. Completely dismissing Mike, who was in the middle of a sentence, I grabbed my shopping, walked away from Mike and exited the store. As I started walking towards Naomi and Nikki, Nikki turned around and saw that I was approaching. I don't think Naomi saw me. Nikki had her back to me and from the angle Naomi was stood, she couldn't see me approaching in the distance. Both Nikki and Naomi continued engaging in what looked like a heated exchange when all of a sudden – WHACK! Naomi punched Nikki in face and she fell to the floor. I dropped my shopping and ran over to the scene where Nikki was nursing a bloody nose and Naomi was stood over Nikki, yelling at her. "YOU'RE A F*CKING EVIL VICIOUS B*TCH!" Naomi viciously yelled at Nikki. "What the f*cking Hell are you doing!?" I angrily exclaimed at Naomi. I knelt down next to Nikki, inspected her nose and put my arms around her. "Are you OK?" I asked, as I helped her to her feet. "I think so," said Nikki, dabbing the trickle of blood that was dribbling out of her left nostril. "What the Hell is wrong with you?" I snapped at Naomi. "She just said that Sophie would be better off without me, that I'm a promiscuous slut, that Sophie would be better off dead than have a grandparent like me, and that I'm such a slag that anyone could be the father! She said Courtney is better off dead than living with a Mother like me!" "I NEVER said that!" snapped Nikki, "I said that I didn't think you were setting a good example for your granddaughter." "You lying b*tch!" snapped Naomi as she lunged at Nikki. I quickly stepped in between them both to keep them apart. "Stop!" I loudly said, "Just stop!" "Luke, you need open your f*cking eyes," snapped Naomi, "This psycho is playing you. She's feeding you a load of lies and you're believing them. She's f*cking nuts." "You're the one that just hit her," I said. "Are you deaf?" snapped Naomi, "I just told you what she said. She deserved a punch. She's lucky her head is still on her shoulders." "See," said Nikki, wiping the blood off her top lip, "I told you she was violent. She's just an unhinged lunatic." "You're the lunatic, love," snapped Naomi, "The only thing that comes out of your mouth is lies." "Naomi, I don't think you're in any position to talk about lying," I said, "You hit Nikki the other day and now you've just hit her again." "I DIDN'T F*CKING HIT HER THE OTHER DAY!" Naomi angrily yelled. "And based on what I've just seen, I'm supposed to believe that am I?" I said. There was a short pause as Naomi frowned with confusion, as if she'd just realised something. "Oh my God," she gasped, as if something suddenly dawned on her, and frowning at Nikki, "You devious b*tch. You set this whole thing up." "Excuse me?" said Nikki. "Set what up?" I asked. "She saw you coming out of Sainsbury's," said Naomi, "Then she said all that sh*t to me about Sophie, goading me, knowing that I'd probably whack her one, and then when I did, she used that to convince you I whacked her before." "Oh please," said Nikki, "Now you definitely sound like a lunatic. Talk about conspiracy theories." "Naomi, do you realise how ridiculous you sound?" I said, "And anyway, I didn't need convincing that you hit Nikki the other day. I was already convinced, but if I wasn't, I am now. I was going to come round to yours and try and sort all this out. It's pretty clear that that's pointless." "SHE'S LYING!!!" Naomi angrily yelled, "FOR F*CK'S SAKE SHE IS TAKING YOU FOR A MUG! This woman is a scheming, evil, two-faced, manipulative, crazy narcissist, and I can't believe how you're being taken in by all of her sh*t." I looked at Naomi and shook my head in shock and disgust. As far as I was concerned, she was the one coming off like a crazy person.
At this point a small crowd was starting to gather and a couple of GRID soldiers approached us. "What's going on here?" one of them firmly asked. "Looks like some friends having some sort of argument," said the other GRID soldier. "No," I said with a firm tone, giving Naomi a stern look of disapproval and disappointment, "This person isn't a friend of mine." I gave Naomi one final look of disappointment and then turned to Nikki and smiled. "Come on," I said, "Let's go home." Nikki and I started to walk off and that's when Mike came running over with the shopping that I'd dropped on the floor. "Here you go babes," he said, handing me my carrier bags "I picked up your shopping for you. Why don't we go and have a drink now eh?" "Not now, Mike," I said, sounding rather annoyed and inconvenienced, "Didn't you see what just happened? Nikki needs me." Leaving Mike sulking, Nikki and I walked back to hers with the shopping.
When Nikki and I arrived back at her place I tended to her nose and gave her a cuddle. "I'm so sorry," I said, "You were right. Speaking to her was a waste of time." "I told you so," said Nikki. "Yeah, well, that's me and her done," I firmly said, "Do you know, she always used to say that I was the one who was thoughtless and acted without thinking, but it looks like she's the one who's thoughtless and acts without thinking now. God, she's so selfish." "And she's a liar," said Nikki, "I never said any of that stuff about her daughter and her granddaughter." "I know you didn't," I said, "I think Naomi has proved what a violent liar she is. Mind you, I shouldn't be surprised. It's not the first time she's been violent like this, and it's certainly not the first time she's lied." "I just feel bad that you've lost a friend," said Nikki. "Don't feel bad," I said, "You've got nothing to feel bad. It's Naomi that should feel bad; assaulting you and then telling all these lies. Anyway, I've got other friends. I don't need Naomi when I've got you."
I'm staying here at Nikki's again tonight. I don't think she should be on her own. I radioed through to Mum. She's moaned about having to look after Leo again, but as she doesn't have a dalliance with some random bloke tonight she has reluctantly agreed to look after him. A day or so ago I felt sad that me and Naomi had fallen out, but now I don't really feel sad. I feel angry. No. In fact, I don't think I feel anything. She used to be a friend. She's not anymore. It's a shame it's come to this, but this is all her own doing. If she carries on behaving like this, she'll turn into a lonely bitter old woman. Naomi is in the past now. From this point on, my energy is going into Nikki and Leo.
