Entry 1152
Friday 22nd November 2019Tinsley made an announcement today to the entire island. It's left me feeling rather unnerved.
I was with Mum, Leo and Auntie Meryl in the living room getting ready to meet Naomi, Mike and Sci-Fi Cyn at Sails Café when the island's Tannoy system made its usual introductory sound to alert us to an up-and-coming announcement. "Here, we go," I said, picking up Leo and walking towards the front door, "This'll be Tinsley. Let's see what he's got to say for himself?" With Leo in my arms, I opened the front door and hovered half inside, half outside with Mum next to me. Tinsley's firm and aggressive voice then made itself known. "This is Commander Richard Tinsley from The Global Response to International Disaster," Tinsley assertively said, "There are rumours flying around the island and so I thought it was best to clarify the situation. Former Commander Jon Blade is currently being held at GRID HQ in custody. Some time ago Jon Blade secretly turned up on the island, after leaving to find some livestock, and he broke Harold Endo out of prison. He did this to transport him to a Northern seaside town where Endo's daughter, who we thought was dead was pregnant and due to give birth to an infected baby. Blade's actions led to the deaths of all GRID soldiers who left the island. He also shot an unarmed woman, planned to kill a former GRID soldier and he kidnapped the infected baby. Blade returned to the island where he planned an attempt to resume command using the infected baby as leverage. My team have apprehended Jon Blade and as I say, he is currently in GRID HQ in custody. Jon Blade returned to the island with the infected baby, and we do not know the baby's whereabouts, but we must find this baby as this infant may hold the key to a vaccine that could help us manage the virus, and even a cure. As the infected is a baby that is only a few days old, there is no imminent threat but if you discover this infected baby, you must immediately Inform a member of GRID. Jon Blade knows where the baby is, and I will continue to question him regarding this matter before deciding whether to imprison him or execute him." Mum and I exchanged awkward looks. This was rather shocking to hear, and even more shocking that Tinsley was announcing this to the island in such a casual way. "In addition to this," continued Tinsley, "I think we need to remember that Jon Blade also covered up murders committed by Catherine Rennison, he lied about stopping the global nuclear missiles, he was responsible for the explosions in Ryde and the deaths of hundreds of people, and he hid his own infected partner underground whilst he told you all to kill your own infected loved ones. Jon Blade will never resume as commander of GRID or of this island. I'd also like to make you aware that Harold Endo has returned to the island. He will not be returned to The Isle of Wight Prison. He will instead be working with GRID scientists to try and develop the previously mentioned vaccine and cure. I know some of you will be shocked at this news, but Harold Endo has specific knowledge and experience in the field of genetic research and advanced science. He created the E-Virus and whilst I know many of you will not be happy knowing that Harold Endo is out of prison, it would be stupid not to use his expertise to help us develop a vaccine and possibly a cure. Professor Harold Endo will be closely supervised whilst in GRID HQ. If he causes any problems he will be dealt with severely. If I find out that any residents approach Professor Endo to give him any violence or other forms of abuse, I will also deal with them severely. You have been informed and you have also been warned. Also, the Infected Entertainment Complex (IEC) will be ready to be opened in the next few days. If anyone would like to see the complex or visit The Hive, please speak to one of the GRID soldiers. That is all." Mum, Auntie Meryl, and I briefly spoke about Tinsley's announcement. I was surprised that he wasn't as shouty as he usually was, but I was even more surprised at how he didn't seem bothered at telling the whole island he might kill Blade.
Naomi and I met with Mike and Sci-Fi Cyn at Sails Café today. We had a chat over a cuppa, I told them about me trying to put things right with Mia, we spoke about Tinsley's announcement and about Endo starting work at GRID HQ. "I saw him this morning," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "He was coming out of one of the labs. He had two armed GRID soldiers with him but it was still unnerving looking at him. He didn't speak to me, but he gave me a right smug grin. It was bad enough being on edge with Tinsley at GRID HQ but now with Endo there it's turning into a right horrible place to work." "I don't think Endo's going to help create a vaccine or a cure," said Mike, "He's just pulling a fast one to stay out of prison. Mind you, I don't blame him. I'd probably do the same." "If he can help create a vaccine or even a cure, maybe it's a god thing that he' out of prison?" said Naomi. "Oh, come on, Naomi," I said, "You know what Endo's like." "Yeah, I know what Tinsley's like," said Naomi, "If Endo doesn't produce some sort of vaccine sooner rather than later, I think Tinsley will chuck him back in prison." "Not if Endo bamboozles him with lies and manipulation," I said. "Look," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "I don't care about Endo, I care about what Tinsley in doing to poor Jon. He didn't mention how he was torturing the poor sod in this announcement this morning, did he? I've tried to get to him to see if there's anything I can do to help but there are always armed soldiers outside the room. I'm seriously thinking about leaving GRID. I didn't join to turn a blind eye to torture." "Tinsley will hit the roof if you say you want to leave," said Naomi. "I know," said Cyn, "That's why I haven't said anything. I suppose if I leave I won't be able to do anything to help Jon." "And we could do with you on the inside." "Right now, I don't care about being on the inside," said a firm Sci-Fi Cyn, "I just want to do what I can to help Jon." "Cyn, I know you don't like him being tortured," I said, "I don't really like the idea either but he's only going to end up in one of two places, jail or The Hive." "You just don't care, do you?" snapped Cyn. "Right now," I said, "No, I don't. I've got other things to care about. Like making it up with Mia and finding her baby. Jon's only got himself to blame for the sh*t he's in." "We've all made mistakes Luke," said a firm Cyn, "You've made mistakes. Lots of them. Should we all turn a blind eye if you get jailed and tortured." "Don't talk to Luke like that!" snapped Mike. "Let's all just calm down," said Naomi, "There's a lot going on. We don't want to fall out amongst ourselves." I can see why Cyn's bothered about all the horrible stuff that Tinsley's doing to Blade, but I don't know what she expects me to do about it. She acts like Blade is some sort of saint. Has she forgotten all the sh*t that he's done!?
Now that Blade has been found, I go back to work at The Hive on Tuesday. Great! God knows what mood Natasha will be in what with the IEC being placed right outside The Hive. She'll probably end up being even bossier than she usually is, mind you, at least I'll get to see Gary, and it'll be good to have Michael working with me.
Me and Naomi STILL... STILL Haven't had sex. I'm starting to think it's never going to happen. I think I'm just going to have to be direct and say something!
