Entry 1155
Monday 25th November 2019

Tinsley made another announcement this morning, I had a good chat with Mia, I caught up with Richard, Madeline and Michael, and I also spoke to Naomi about us not having sex... Well... I tried to.

In the morning I was sat in the living room with Mum, Leo and Auntie Meryl when the island's Tannoy system Bing-bonged alerting us to an up-and-coming announcement. "Oh, here we go," said Mum, rolling her eyes, "Out Lord and Master beckons us." "Eh?" said Auntie Meryl, "Who is it? What's going on?" "Tinsley," I said, "He's making an announcement." I handed Leo to Auntie Meryl as Mum and I gathered on the front door step. We both looked next door and noticed Mia and Harold stood on her front door step. "Nice morning for a dictatorship announcement," said Harold with an annoying smile. "This is Commander Richard Tinsley," the man confidently said as his voice echoed across the island, "This is a quick announcement keeping you all up-to-date of what's going on around here. I can confirm that the infected infant has been acquired and is now in GRID custody. As I said previously this baby may be instrumental in helping my scientists develop a vaccine to help us manage this virus, and she may even be the key to a cure. The baby will of course be looked after appropriately and the Mother will have access. We do not know who was harbouring this infant. All we know is that it was returned to the mother by an unknown person. Former Commander Jon Blade has refused to tell us who he gave the baby to, but he will continue to be interrogated. His future it yet to be decided. I also want to make it clear that if any islanders see Professor Harold Endo in public, they are not to harm or antagonise him. He may have been responsible for the development of this virus but he was not responsible for the outbreak. We have no idea who was responsible for that, but what I can tell you is that Professor Endo will be working with my scientists to try and develop and a vaccine and a cure. Anyone giving Endo grief will be dealt with. Don't say you weren't warned. I'd also like to announce that the Infected Entertainment Complex, known as the IEC will be opened and ready for visitors this Saturday. That is all." As soon as Tinsley's announcement was over, I turned to Mia and tried to start a conversation with her, but ignoring me she adopted a stern expression and went back inside leaving me with Harold who shrugged his shoulders and gave me a smug look. Pr*ck!

In the afternoon Naomi and I took Leo and Sophie for a walk on the beach. We were talking about Mia's baby and about Tinsley's announcement when I brought up the subject of me and Naomi still not having sex. "Well, now that all this baby drama is sorted out maybe we can get back to you and me," I said. "What do you mean?" asked Naomi. Well," I said, "You know... We... Well... We still haven't... You know?" I nodded towards the kids, indicating that I didn't want to get too graphic in front of young ears. "Oh!" said Naomi, realising what I was on about, "Yeah, I see what you mean." "You still want us to do it don't you?" I asked, "Luke, I don't really think we should talk about this in front of the kids." "They don't know what we're on about," I said, "They're too young. Anyway, it's not like I'm being graphic. Come on, how about I stay over at yours tonight, and we can...You know." "Luke, we don't need to talk about this right now," said Naomi, "And I certainly don't think we should rush it." "Rush it!?" I exclaimed, "It's been ages!" Naomi and I couldn't continue our conversation as we bumped into Richard and Madeline who were walking along the beach with Michael. "Oh, why looky who we have here," said Madeline, "It's the happy little family." Madeleine squeezed Leo's cheeks as she looked at him and gave him a smile. "Oh, he's such a cutie pie," said Madeline, "God certainly blessed him with his Mamma's pretty looks." "Hang on," I said, "You never met Esther, how do you know he doesn't take after me?" "Oh honey," giggled Madeline, with a patronising laugh, "I think it's so sweet that you have such a positive outlook on life." "What does that mean?" I asked. "You know me and Richard are going to The Hive tomorrow," said Madeline, changing the subject, "So we'll probably see you and Madeline there." "What are you going to The Hive for?" I asked. "Well, I've never been," said Madeline, "And Dicky here has been going on and on about how he wants to go and have a look, so I said that we'd have a little outing tomorrow." "You want to go and look at The Hive?" I asked Richard. Richard glumly shrugged. "Look at him," giggled Madeline, pointing at Richard, "He just can't contain his excitement. Honestly he hasn't stopped going on about this Hive." "I hope there's no bees there," said Richard, "I don't like bees. I once got stung by a bee and my face swelled up." "It's not that sort of a hive," I said, "It's full of infected, not bees." "Well, I'm looking forward to getting to this hive tomorrow," said Michael, "Starting work again. Having a job after all this time. It'll be good to feel like I've got a purpose." "Wait until you see it," I said to Michael, "It's a sh*thole." "Well, I am mighty interested in what this place is like," said Madeline, "And seeing Elizabeth work there, holding down a proper job. I can't wait to see that." "Madeline," said Naomi, "Why do you want to go and see a great big ugly thing that's not pleasant to look at and is full of awful cr*p?" "Now, that's not very nice, Naomi," said Madeline, "Elizabeth has a lovely personality." "She's on about the infected in The Hive you daft yank," I said. "Sorry," said Michael, "Who's Elizabeth?" "He is," said Madeline, pointing at me, "That's his name. A lovely name. I used to have a prize cow called Elizabeth." "I don't like cows," said Richard. "Elizabeth is a girl's name," giggled Michael. "Blame my stupid Mother," I snapped. Once Michael, Madeline and Richard left I tried to speak to Naomi again about us having sex but the moment had passed. It was as if she didn't want to talk about it at all. I really hope she isn't having second thoughts.

On the way back home, Naomi and I bumped into Mia. She was coming out of Sainsbury's and had a huge smile on her face. "Well, you look happier than you did this morning," I said. "I've just been to see Tinkerbell," said Mia with a big beaming smile on her face, "It was lovely. They even let me hold her. Oh, it really was the most amazing thing. I mean I had to wear a weird hazmat suit, Tinkerbell had a muzzle on, and there were two armed soldiers looking over us but apart from that, it really was the most amazing thing. I can see her every day if I want, and Sci-Fi Cyn said she'd check in on her every now and then." "I'm just glad to see you smiling again," I said, "You're not p*ssed off with me anymore, are you?" "No," said Mia, shaking her head, "I mean, Tinkerbell's not well, is she? She needs to get better, and the best place to be to try and get better is GRID HQ with all of those scientists working with my Dad to try and cure her and maybe even cure everyone else. I think everything's going to work out OK." "Don't get too excited Mia," said Naomi, "GRID scientists have been working for ages to try and develop a cure and they've come up with nothing, and that's with trying to do something with Trudy's special blood." "Yeah, but they didn't have a baby as special as my Tinkerbell did, they?" said Mia, "And they didn't have my Dad helping them. This is all going to work out. You'll see. Anyway, I have to go. I'm meeting Trudy. See you later." Mia went off happily skipping down the street leaving Naomi and I exchanging cynical looks. "I love her but she's naive," said Naomi. "Well, for now, let's just be happy that she's happy," I said, "Mind you; I still can't get over the fact that she's called that baby Tinkerbell." "I know," giggled Naomi, "It looks more a Godzilla than a Tinkerbell. Mind you, I know how strong a Mother's love can be."

I met up with Gary today. We went to the Anchor Inn pub and had a drink. It was nice. No other GRID soldiers or brutish blokes, just me and Gary having a chat over a drink. We talked about all the drama that had recently been going on. Gary told me that that a lot of the GRID soldiers are getting p*ssed off with Tinsley but that no one seems to have the balls to stand up to him. I had a bit of a moan to him about me and Naomi not having sex. "Just don't go doing anything stupid," said Gary. "Like what?" I asked. "Like, dressing up as an Austrian rent boy and telling some bloke down a dark alley you're looking for c*cks." "That was a misunderstanding," I said. "You have a lot of misunderstandings," said Gary, "Look, you and Naomi will do the deed, just don't make it into this big thing." "Yeah, but it feels like it's becoming a big thing," I said. "That's because you're making it a big thing," said Gary, "Just go with the flow." "I wish I could," I said, "But there always seems to be some sort of drama. When I got back from Whitby, I thought things would quieten down but no... I get roped into all this drama with Blade and Mia's baby. I'm not sure Naomi wants to have sex with me anymore. She didn't even want to talk about it today." "You were with the kids," said Gary. "Yeah, but she never brings it up," I said, "Why isn't she bringing it up?" "Stop over-thinking things," said Gary. "Easier said than done," I said, "You know there's always something to stress about it. If it wasn't me worrying about mine and Naomi's sex life it would be something else." "Stop stressing Chuckles," said Gary, "You're looking for problems when there aren't any. If Naomi didn't want to be with you then she wouldn't be. You need to spend more time enjoying life, than stressing about it." "Yeah, well what with all the drama and all the problems that seem to follow me it's hard to see what the point is sometimes. I sometimes wonder what the point is in being so happy when you're going to miserable later on." "Oh, Chuckles," said Gary, "You've got it the wrong way round. Haven't you figured it out yet?" "What do you mean?" I asked. "The threat of being miserable isn't why you should abandon happiness. It's the reason you should grab hold of happiness and make the most of it whilst it lasts." Gary's comment really made me think. I suppose I'd never seen it like that before.  "You're born, you live, you die," said Gary, "We don't have any choice about being born. We've got a little bit of choice about dying – if we choose suicide, but as for living, that's all us. We decide how we live, and if you ask me these past few years have told us all that we need to make the most of life whilst we've still got it. Born, live, die. Enjoy the living." Gary's words cheered me up and got me to see things differently, but I still felt annoyed that Naomi and I STILL hadn't spoken about the fact that we've been together weeks and still haven't had sex.

Now that all the drama with Blade and Mia's baby is sorted, I've got to go back to work. I'm back at The Hive tomorrow and back at the prison on Thursday. The idea of doing such boring and mundane jobs doesn't exactly excite me but at least it will give me some sort of a routine. It'll be nice to be working at The Hive with Michael too, but God knows why Madeline is keen to see The Hive. I thought she'd have had enough of infected what with all the sh*t that went on in Egypt.
