Narrator pov. On the way to Ekoda High, a bit before the end of school~

Teitan Elementary had the day off today, and so Irene had spent the day at the Kuroba house and was now on the way to pick up Kuroba from school.

Nakamori had made sure to make her lunch since yesterday after finding out about her day off, so Irene was able to just read books, sketch, play the flute, and eat lunch when she felt hungry.

She had been in a good mood and decided to go meet up with Kuroba at his school, having been told the directions from his house before.

She arrived just as the bell to signal the end of school rang, and students started filing out.

Thankfully, even while having to dodge the taller people's legs, Irene found her 'cousin' due to his voice and Nakamori's.

"Kaito-niichan!" She called out as she ran towards the sound.

But when she finally saw him and the group of classmates he usually walked out with, she paused.

And her look slowly morphed into a disbelieving, annoyed look, 'He's back...?'

Walking with Kuroba's usual group of Nakamori, Momoi, and Koizumi was Hakuba Saguru.

Her mood immediately dampened as she and Kuroba made eye contact before she ran to him, hugging him while secretly whispering, "Why didn't you tell me he's back? I wouldn't have come."

He replied in the same whisper, "I didn't know either. He just came in today."

Nakamori then greeted, "Irene-chan! Nice to see you here." with a smile, Momoi also greeted, "Hey again, Irene-chan!"

Irene pulled out of the hug, instead staying beside Kuroba, away from the blonde who was already looking at her suspiciously, and smiled at the two girls, "Hey, Aoko-neechan, Keiko-neechan!"

Hakuba spoke up, "And who's this?" in his usual arrogant know-it-all tone, looking at Irene as if she were another piece of a puzzle.

Irene's smile twitched, and Nakamori took the initiative to introduce her, "This is Midorikawa Irene-chan, she's Kaito's distant cousin. She had moved into Kaito's place here from America a few months ago, while you were away in London."

Hakuba hummed, "Oh? I see." Now seeming intrigued as he smirked at Kuroba and her, apparently thinking she'd be the clue to reveal Kid's identity.

Both Irene and Kuroba's eyebrows twitched really slightly, 'This little...' 

Nakamori, oblivious, then introduced him, "Irene-chan, this is Hakuba Saguru, our classmate from London. He's not new, but he sometimes has to go back to his home because of family situations and cases. He's a detective."

'Oh, I know.' Irene thought in her head in annoyance before forcing a smile and nod, "Ah, okay."

They then continued to walk out of the school, Irene staying away from Hakuba by walking on Kuroba's other side, where no one else was walking.

They were both content not to give Hakuba a chance to talk to her, but apparently Nakamori noticed and wasn't as fine with it.

She said, "You know, Irene-chan, Hakuba-kun is a fan of Holmes too, maybe you can talk about that together?"

Hakuba replied, "Oh? I'd love to talk with another fan of Holmes."

Irene tensed slightly, but to her relief, Kuroba interjected, "Nope. Sorry, but my cousin isn't interested in talking to pricks. And she already has a Holmes friend her age, I don't think older ones are a good idea."

Nakamori deflated and Hakuba frowned, but Irene sighed in relief, reaching up and taking Kuroba's hand to write on it with her finger, "Thanks."

He nodded, giving Hakuba a glare as Irene held on to his hand the whole way home.

Then, when Hakuba had to go his own way and they arrived at their neighborhood, Irene and Kuroba practically rushed the rest of the way home, unlocking and closing the door behind them.

Finally alone, Irene had to grumble, "I was in a good mood today and he just had to come back from London and ruin it."

Kuroba nodded in agreement and said, "I know, right? He always likes to ruin my day. I had to keep my guard up at school again."

Irene gave him a serious look, "You better be planning on pranking the heck out of him."

He nodded just as seriously, "Of course," before they started discussing prank ideas to annoy Hakuba.

"Dye his hair rainbow," Irene suggested.

"Or switch around his book covers," Kuroba added.

"Or dye his uniform his least favorite colors," Irene added.

"Or trick him into getting tied up to the class wall while forcing him into a clown costume, that'll be a better look on him." Kuroba retorted with.

They both laughed, "Okay, that last one is genius." Irene admitted.

"Why, thank you," Kuroba replied, giving a bow worthy of Kid.

"Can you even do it without him noticing the trap, though?" Irene questioned.

Kuroba grinned, "Don't underestimate the number 1 Ekoda School prankster, Karashima."

Irene chuckled, grinning back, "Fine, then the moment you do it, you'd better get me a picture." She held her hand out for a handshake, "Deal?"

He happily took it and they shook on it, "Deal."

They grinned at each other before Nakamori called them for dinner, and they dropped the topic for now to go eat.

Yep, Hakuba is back. Ugh. >^>

Good thing Kaito was there to stop any interrogation from happening.

Their mutual dislike (hate) for Hakuba is understandable. (I hate him too-)

Their prank ideas are pretty good, though. XD

He deserves it.
