True Happiness (rewrite version)

To Miracle Land -1-

AN: Movie 10, the one with the exploding IDs. Hope you enjoy this!

Narrator pov. On the car ride to the hotel~

The family rental car Kogoro was driving them in is going so slow from the weight that yet another truck passed it, which Kogoro complained about.

Edogawa then commented, "If you were going to rent a car, you might as well have rented a better one."

Mitushuiko from the seat at the very back agreed.

The seat arrangement was that the shrunken trio were in the back seat, and the real kids were in the other seat at the very back together.

Irene added, "Ma, can't expect any more from the uncle whose first thought when getting money is beer and horse race betting," in a deadpan while looking out the window next to her seat, as Edogawa was the one sitting in the middle.

Edogawa snorted, Haibara nodded in agreement with her own deadpan look, and Kogoro started letting out some angry noises while driving.

Mouri, who was in the passenger seat, turned back to them so she could add, "It would've been better if we took the train, right?"

Everyone agreed.

Kogoro made the mistake of looking back while driving to tell them to shut up and that they were only here because the client insisted they come along.

Haibara then reminded Kogoro he was driving, by stating that they'd crash into the wall if he didn't steer the wheel in the next 5 seconds.

With a shout as he saw she was right, when he turned back to the front, he steered the wheel, which made the car lean to the side too much.

Irene had held on to the window; she had to admit that that was a little exciting, but still not as good as if the car were fast.

 She held her bag close as the car was steady again, and Kogoro continued driving slowly to the hotel.

When arriving, after Kogoro parked the car, the others started to talk about how it looked like a castle.

When Haibara said, "Well, it's right in front of Miracle Land. So if rich people living like kings were to get together at this hotel, it wouldn't be surprising."

Irene mumbled in a deadpan, "Or if a rich family funded it..." remembering how the Suzukis were even involved in funding this place.

No one except Edogawa heard her, and he raised an eyebrow.

She just mouthed, "Suzuki," and he understood, now having that deadpan smile and laugh.

After some more talking, the secretary, Takada, approached their group while confirming it was Kogoro before telling them to follow him inside.

When arriving at the room, Irene looked at the chairs before Takada told the kids to sit down and wait.

So they all took their seats, with Irene ending up beside Edogawa; she couldn't stop looking at the armrest, having hesitantly put her hand on it.

Takada then came in with a cart with all the IDs, saying that these were why they wanted the kids to come, placing one in front of everyone at the table.

Even after he explained what they were and told everyone to put them on, Irene picked up hers, thought for a bit, then hesitantly put it on.

'If I remember right, he probably could tell when someone is not wearing theirs, that, and I can feel Takada-san looking at everyone, so I don't think I have a choice...' she smiled softly at the next thought, 'I can make sure mine doesn't activate by just not going inside, though.'

So after Takada explained that everything, including drinks, was free in Miracle Land with these IDs, Irene stood up with the others, not reacting to Edogawa being told to stay with Kogoro.

And only when they were outside the hotel did she drop her bag somewhere not suspicious, pretending to follow everyone to the amusement park entrance.

I'll admit, my first idea to get Irene to avoid the threat of exploding was that she sneakily doesn't wear the ID. But then I realized Takada would probably notice, or even the criminal would, with how he can identify who's wearing what ID in the movie, so I decided not to risk that.

Instead, Irene is taking advantage of the area sensors and the fact that she has a bag with her to simply not get it to activate by not going inside. :D
