AN: Technically an original, but it happens between canon cases, like when Chikage met the class. Hope you enjoy it!

Narator pov. At School~

Edogawa had been acting off, like he was both suspicious and angry about something.

Irene had noticed this for a few days now, since Tuesday at school.

After thinking about what could get him like that after school on Monday, Irene remembered how the kitten case that had already happened a bit earlier ended for Edogawa at the agency.

'Ah.... Hondo-kun...' she thought while writing the notes for today's math class, was that what his behavior was about?

When lunch came around, she found out that, yes, that was it.

Edogawa sat next to her, as usual, while Haibara sat on her other side, facing the real kids who were now bombarding the scientist with questions about Fusae and Agasa.

Irene would've listened, but then Edogawa tapped her shoulder, making her look at him to notice his serious look.

Keeping her voice quiet, she asked, "What's wrong?"

He took a deep breath and answered, "A new student in Ran's class visited the agency last Monday, and he has the same face as Kir."

'Yapari (I knew it),' she thought to herself, sipping her juice box.

"He says his name is Hondo Eisuke, and he said that he's not related to her. He's a fan of Occhan, but he sure doesn't seem to try and get on only his good side..." he sounded annoyed at that part, which Irene knew why.

Knowing that he was jealous because of how Hondo had been getting close to Mouri made Irene feel off for some reason, though she knew she was also annoyed that he was suspecting the poor boy.

He continued, "Since Kir is in the hospital, I'm thinking that maybe he's actually from-"

Irene decided to cut him off then, "No, he's not."

He looked at her in surprise, probably at how she sounded annoyed.

She looked back at him and continued, "Hondo-kun isn't a threat at all." She hoped to look as honest and serious as she was, knowing he wouldn't get the double meaning there of how she also meant Eisuke wasn't going to steal Mouri away, "If anything, he's a different kind of connection to Rena-san."

He blinked in confusion, "What does that mean?"

Irene smiled at him, "That, you'll have to find out on your own." She turned back to her food and ate more of it.

He blinked before sighing, but he still smiled and said, "Alright. Thanks for sharing as much as you can with me. I'm glad you're a friend I can count on."

Irene paused.

Why did hearing him call her "friend" make her feel so weird? Was it because he was the first boy her age to become her friend??

She mentally shrugged it off and replied with her own smile, and replied, "No problem..."

Except, she knew one piece of information she didn't tell him yet...

The image of Vermouth flashed again in her mind's eye.

She couldn't tell him, not yet. She couldn't even tell Haibara.

She wasn't ready; she didn't know if she ever could be.

She didn't know how he'd react, and she was too scared to find out.

She honestly felt jealous; he was now the only one of the 3 shrunken ones that wasn't being targeted by any Men in Black members yet.

Not wanting to delve into that thought more, she decided to continue eating her food, noticing Edogawa doing the same, and joining in the conversation with Haibara and the kids, wanting to know how Fusae and Agasa were now.

Conan's jealousy when he talks about him is obvious.

And once again, a reminder that neither Corene knows their feelings yet. Bet some of you were annoyed at Irene, huh?

And before anyone asks, "Why did she say he's her first male friend her age when she met Kaito first?" Kaito doesn't count, as she was forced into meeting him, more than anything, and trusting him with her stuff. Then they ended up becoming cousins to give her a backstory and reason to stay with him. So...

And we see Irene get jealous in a different, more serious way, for sadder reasons.

Yeah... Both of them feel different kinds of jealousy in this, which kinda makes the title fitting.

Don't worry, Irene will tell Conan and Ai about her being targeted by Vermouth eventually... just not yet.
