Making progress

AN: The Subaru introduction. I'm skipping the case itself till the part where Subaru wants to meet Hakase, since Irene doesn't change things in the case itself. Hope you enjoy it!

"Hi!"= Talking in English

Narrator pov. At the end of the case~

Yuminaga just explained the nickname Kuroshiro to the real kids and how it fit Edogawa before he left with the arrested Mukabe and the rest of the police in their cars.

Mitsuhiko then said, "Now, shall we visit Kaito-kun at the hospital, then?"

Ayumi raised a hand happily, "I agree!"

Genta suggested, "Since it's a bit far away, let's have Hakase take us there!"

Irene looked at Subaru as he approached while asking, "Hakase?" which made the others look up at him.

He crouched down to one knee to be at eye-level before asking, "You mean you have a professor you're acquainted with?"

Ayumi nodded and replied, "Un, we do!"

Genta added, "All he does is make useless games every time, though."

'Genta-kun... He made the badges...' Irene thought emotionlessly as she glanced down at hers, noticing Haibara stepping to stand behind Edogawa out of the corner of her eye.

After Ayumi spoke for the rest to take Subaru to meet Agasa when he said he wanted to, Irene tagged along.

A while later, after the real kids left and only the shrunken trio, Agasa, and Subaru were left in Agasa's home, Irene let the conversation between the adults happen.

When Haibara shook her head to deny Subaru's request to stay in the house with fear in her eyes, Irene watched as Edogawa spoke up.

When Haibara pulled him aside to ask him what he was doing letting a stranger in his house, Irene looked away as Edogawa said the stupid line, "A Holmes fan can't be a bad person!"

With a sigh, Irene gestured for Haibara to come talk.

Irene then said, "Don't worry, Subaru-san isn't an enemy. He's actually nice."

Haibara seemed less skeptical at that, but the response she gave wasn't all expected: "Thank you, now that's more reassuring..." She then paused before adding, "I've heard what happened on the news. Would you like to spend some time together before you leave now, as it might get your mind off of things?"

Irene tilted her head, "Hm?"

Haibara added, "Hakase is going on a date soon, and I'd rather be with someone than be alone with Him next door, even if you say he's safe. Just for today." She glanced at Subaru, who had just received the keys from Edogawa.

Irene followed her gaze before looking back at her. This was the second time Haibara had willingly asked to spend time with her...

Guess she was making progress.

She nodded, "Alright. What do you want to do?"

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

Yep, Subaru is here now, though Irene thankfully calmed Ai's worries about him down.

More importantly, though, Ai asked to spend time with Irene willingly! Yay!

If you don't remember, the first time was during the bear case, as Ai was the one to suggest going with Irene.

And yet another subtle mention of Fugasa, hope you guys didn't forget they're a thing here. OwO
