Narrator pov. On the train ride home~
Thanks to Ayumi mentioning it at school earlier, Irene knew what case was happening tonight, so she gave Edogawa a hint about it.
As the train arrived at Ekoda, she got off and went home.
"Tadaima," she greeted in her usual tone once she entered the house.
"Okaeri!" Kuroba's reply was rushed, and when she got to the living room, she saw why.
He was holding a wrapped chocolate while looking at the house next door.
Irene tilted her head, "You didn't give it to her yet? You had a chance at school."
"Didn't want Akako or Hakuba to try and get in the way." He responded while still thinking to himself.
Irene nodded slowly. She could understand that, "So you're thinking of giving it to her through a magic trick at dinner?" she wondered.
Kuroba nodded.
Just then, Nakamori called that dinner was ready.
Irene and Kuroba went to the house.
After dinner, where Irene and Ginzo got to watch Kuroba do his magic trick, while annoying Nakamori as usual, before she saw the chocolate, Irene and Kuroba left Nakamori in a good mood.
Irene looked up at the magician, "Looks like she liked it."
He nodded, blushing as he grinned, "Heh, yeah."
They got home around 10, and because it was the weekend, Irene let Kuroba stay up to celebrate his successful White Day gifting in the lair.
She lay on her bed, not sleeping because of her insomnia as usual, and after a few more minutes, she heard the doorbell ring.
She blinked, seeing that it was late by the clock, before going to answer the door.
'Who could be here this late? Maybe Chikage-san?' Irene paused, 'But she'd have her own house keys, wouldn't she?'
Now curious as she didn't feel any danger, but expression unchanging, she answered the intercom, "Hai. Kuroba Residence."
The voice that answered was one she didn't expect, "Midorikawa! So I got the right house. It's Edogawa."
She blinked, 'Kudo-kun? What is he doing all the way here? And how did he find where... Oh.'
She finally knew where he went during recess; he skimmed through her school records to find her address.
She opened the door, staring at him, still wearing the outfit from the party she knew he was at most of the night with his hands in his jacket pockets, and tilted her head, "What are you doing here this late? Didn't you leave a party?"
Granted, it looks like he finished earlier than he should, meaning her hint helped him solve it faster, but it was still late.
He stepped closer, "Well... You know how it's White Day today, right?"
She nodded, "Yeah, and you gave Mouri-san cough drops, what about it?"
He rubbed the back of his head, "Well... I figured you never got gifts from guys your age before, so..."
He then pulled his hand out from his jacket pocket to show that he was holding a wrapped box.
Irene blinked at it with raised eyebrows before looking back at him, "You... Got me chocolate."
He corrected, "Strawberry-flavored chocolate," then added, "But... Yeah. I would've gotten something better, but-"
She took the box from him before he could finish, looking at it, "You bothered to know my address through the school records just to get here and give me this."
He nodded, blushing a bit, "Uh... Yeah."
She tilted her head at him, "But what about Mouri-san? You did make sure she got the coughdrops, right?"
"Yeah, but I left a note while she took one, then boarded the train here," he responded.
"But I didn't give you anything on Valentine's," she stated.
"I know, but this is to cheer you up more than anything," he explained, rubbing his neck nervously.
She looked back down at the box in her hands, holding it tight as her heart seemed to beat a bit faster, before looking back up at him and nodding slowly, "Okay. Arigato, Kudo-kun. You should get going before you miss the train home."
She stepped back and reached for the door handle to get ready to close it, but kept her gaze on him, "Oyasumi."
He nodded back, giving a small wave, "Oyasumi."
And when she closed the door, she heard what she almost thought was a sigh of relief and a small laugh, before his footsteps started running to the train station.
She looked down at the box in her hands as she locked the door.
Kuroba was standing there when she turned, seeming to have seen the whole thing, but was smart enough to stay silent.
"That was weird and nice of him to do." He commented.
She nodded, "It was..."
She held the box close, feeling that weird feeling she got from the brooch again, "But, I appreciate it." She opened it and took a bite of the chocolate.
It really was strawberry-flavored, and the chocolate layer mostly tasted like strawberry.
AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!
Yep, Conan got her chocolate on White Day, but only to still try to cheer her up, as they both don't know yet. Wasn't that sweet?
And look at that, she reacted similarly to the Holmes Book and the hair brooch he got her, looks like we're getting closer. OwO
The small KaiAo moment was cute. ^^
So what did you guys think? Did you like it? Which part was your favorite? Hope to see your feedback soon!
That's all. See you next chapter!
Stay sweet, my fellow anime lovers!~
