Narrator pov. Continuing~

Irene ate with everyone else silently as Edogawa and Ai talked about what happened to Touma and then where the real kids went.

And later, she stayed with Ai as they went with the adults to the commemorative ceremony, as Edogawa went to continue investigating the case on his own, taking out her phone like Ai did while Ai called Ayumi.

Irene texted the people in Ekoda to check in on them, as a way to tell Kuroba that this was the moment where they'd lose contact for a bit, before closing her phone.

She listened as Ai called Edogawa next, since the kids weren't picking up, looking around, and waiting.

Then the explosion of the cell phone base station happened as Ai's phone suddenly ended the call, and then everyone around started noticing that their phones weren't connecting and were suddenly out of range.

Irene watched the panic with Ai for a bit before they heard Edogawa from their badges, "Can you hear me, Midorikawa, Haibara?"

Irene and Ai turned on their badges to answer, as Ai said, "We can hear you."

Edogawa asked, "How's the situation over there?"

Irene was the one who answered, "People are in a bit of a panic because their cell phones suddenly don't work."

Edogawa responded, "Yapari."

Ai then added, "And about the kids, there were people who saw them with Touma-kun. Afterward, the 4 of them seem to have gone somewhere."

Irene put in, "Somewhere out of the village. They want to help Touma-kun get his memory back, so they're going to the cliff he fell from."

Edogawa could be heard clicking his tongue on the other end before he said, "Both of you come back here immediately!"

Both girls responded, "Got it," before the badge call was ended.

They went back to the lodge to meet up with him, and they rode on his snowboard to find the kids.

On the way, they heard a gunshot, and Edogawa said, "This is bad. You two should-"

Irene shifted her feet while still holding on and pressed on the boost button with her foot, stating, "Not waiting." 

The snowboard went faster, which made Edogawa cry out a bit in surprise, but Ai just held on tighter, Irene doing the same, and Edogawa went back to focusing on riding.

They saw the one shooting as an adult was aiming a rifle at the kids ahead, and Edogawa used the snowboard to blind the person with snow.

The person shot through it, and Irene just held on tighter while ducking her head, while Edogawa covered Ai's head while riding into the woods.

They then arrived at a safe spot and saw the kids get inside a cave. Ai cried out for them, but they wouldn't hear her from this far away.

The trio got off the snowboard, and the girls went ahead to the kids while Edogawa tucked his board.

Ai scolded the kids, but Irene wasn't that worried about the shooter following them or shooting at them from in here, so she stayed silent, just waiting for Edogawa to join them so they could start walking to the other side of the cave to get out.

Irene made sure to walk ahead of everyone, having a plan in her head about what she could do to help this time.

When she felt Edogawa gaze at her after Touma revealed that he remembered running away from someone, she took that as her cue and started running ahead of them.

She heard him yell at the others that they should also hurry up and get out of here and to the dam, but after that, she just focused on getting there first.

Welp, the first bombings at the village happened.

It was nice of Irene to give Kaito a heads up that her phone will be out of range now, just in case Aoko calls her during that time and gets worried when it doesn't reach. Another way to show Irene cares, even while colorless. :3

The next chapter will be mostly from Irene's perspective alone, as she will reach the dam first since she doesn't need to slow down for anyone.
