Narrator pov. Saturday at the Kuroba House, 3 am~

Irene couldn't sleep at all since last night.

After she finished crying in Kuroba's arms, he informed her that there was leftover dinner she could eat.

But she refused, feeling too sick to eat after what happened.

Instead, she wished him goodnight and went to bed right there.

But she didn't sleep, the scene from the apartment still replaying in her mind.

She whimpered and shook as she tried to think of anything else, which didn't work.

The more she tried, the more her feelings of pain and despair increased.

When she did get a bit sleepy, she got nightmares about it, mixed in with the replaying of their memories together.

The nightmares twisted things so badly, as it made it seem like it was her fault.

Like everything else in her life.

That got her to snap awake again, only an hour ago, as she hugged herself.

She didn't cry again, now too scared to and not wanting to wake Kuroba up.

She started thinking of things she could've done to change what happened, even if, for once, it was a death she didn't see coming.

"I... I could've asked her to come with us to the buffet," she mumbled out, "Or I could've asked Kudo-kun to ask Jodie-sensei to bring her along..."

She felt more tears well up, but she wiped them off, remembering something.

She was sure she heard a car somewhere near the apartment complex, even if she was too busy panicking and getting to Miyuki that she didn't see it.

'Could that have been the culprit leaving?' she thought before lowering her head.

Of course, she even let the culprit run away.

Honestly, what good was she? Miyuki was a useful FBI agent, and all Irene did was either let deaths happen, stop them when it was safe to, or change things without even doing anything like Edogawa's amnesia phase.

She got out of bed. Miyuki was gone, for the second time, in a world where they both knew the dangers and were supposed to protect each other.

Especially as Miyuki was supposed to help protect her from Vermouth.

And Irene? She couldn't even save her best friend despite the second chance she got.

'What good was it to even stick around...? I'll just be a nuisance... And I can't just wait for Vermouth to finish me off...'

She quietly opened the door to her room and sneaked downstairs without turning on the lights, feeling violet and black at the same time.

Her destination?

The kitchen.

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

Oof, well, Irene is getting too overwhelmed.

Can't really blame her, though. She lost her childhood best friend for the second time.

Wonder what she's going to the kitchen for. :^

Just in case the colors weren't obvious, black is pain, blue is despair, and violet is guilt.

So what did you guys think? Did you like it? Which part was your favorite? Hope to see your feedback soon!

That's all. See you next chapter!

Stay sweet, my fellow anime lovers!~
