Narrator pov. Teitan Elementary music class at 2 pm~

They were with their class practicing for the chorus competition with Reiko listening to them by the window and Mouri playing the piano to the school's song, which they were singing.

The song ended, and Mouri asked Reiko how everyone's singing was.

Reiko walked over from the window and started pointing at each kid to tell them how their singing was.

Eventually, she pointed at Irene, "As for you, your singing was in pitch, pretty expressive, and with excellent harmony with everyone else, good job."

She blushed at the compliment, smiling, "Arigato!"

Edogawa had blushed a bit at the reaction, but he smiled.

Until Reiko pointed at him and pointed out how he was out of tune the entire time, and Ayumi unintentionally embarrassed him while trying to defend him by exposing how he was tone-deaf, making almost everyone laugh.

When it was revealed that Reiko had perfect pitch, Haibara explained what it was, and Mitsuhiko asked if that was how she was so good at singing. Irene noticed where Genta went and followed him to stop him.

When he started opening the bottle and pouring the tea, Irene exclaimed, "Genta-kun!" while getting in his face.

Genta was startled and dropped the filled lid into the air.

Irene caught it, but some of the tea accidentally spilled out into her mouth as the lid flew at her face, and she caught it in front of her, and it slid down her throat as she was talking, "You shouldn't drink someone else's drink like that! How would you feel if-"

But, as fate would have it.

She couldn't finish as the tea reached her throat.

She coughed and couldn't help but hoarsely scream and drop to her knees, which got Edogawa to run to her, "Midorikawa!" Everyone else also joined him and gathered around her.

She couldn't respond, still holding her throat and feeling the burning as Reiko picked up her bottle and Genta stared in horror.

Edogawa placed a hand on Irene's shoulder as he looked at Reiko picking up her bottle in shock. "Someone put something in there," he said without bothering to mention that this was also what Reiko was thinking, because he himself was certain of it.

He held Irene close as her other hand reached out to clutch his hoodie while still holding her throat, still feeling pain, he looked up at Mouri, "Let's get her to the hospital, quick!"

And so they were in the hospital as Irene entered the doctor's office with Mouri, while the detective boys, Suzuki and Reiko, waited out in the hallway.

Edogawa was pacing, worried about Irene but also thinking about when the tea could've been tampered with, asking Reiko questions about where and when was last time she drank it.

A little after that, Irene and Mouri came back out of the office, which made the real kids run to them.

Ayumi exclaimed, "Irene-chan!" in worry, and Mitsuhiko asked, "Are you alright?"

Irene held her throat and nodded her head slowly, not bothering to try whispering and irritate her throat more.

Suzuki then asked Mouri, "What did the doctor say?"

Mouri answered, "Her throat is pretty inflamed, but she'll recover in 4 or 5 days."

Genta looked guilty, "I'm so sorry, Irene."

Irene shook her head with a smile as Mitsuhiko said, "But you'll recover!" happily.

Ayumi added, "Yokatta!"

Haibara said, "But, on the contrary, it means that she can't speak properly for the next four days.."

Edogawa looked serious, "Yeah. There are 3 more days until the Doumoto Hall concert. If Reiko-san drank it, she might have been unable to perform."

He and Irene made eye contact, his question clear in his eyes, which he gestured to Genta with, and she nodded.

He narrowed his eyes and looked up at Mouri, "Tell Megure-Keibu to analyze the contents of that bottle."

Mouri responded, "Then, I'll report it." She then looked down at Irene, "But, before that..."

Mitsuhiko responded, "For Irene-chan, we can walk her a bit of the way to the station on our way home."

Suzuki added, "I'll come too."

Reiko added, "I'll go too," looking down at Genta, who flinched, "I must meet this boy's parents and ask them how he can take someone else's drink without permission and cause this? What sort of upbringing did he have?"

Genta looked down, "I'm sorry..."

Irene patted him on the back and gave him a smile, reminding him that she didn't blame him for her current situation.

So they went with her a bit of the way to the station before they had to separate. Irene and Ayumi hugged as the latter said, "Hope you recover soon, Irene-chan! Ja ne!"

Irene smiled and waved, not noticing Edogawa looking a bit down now, and ran off the rest of the way to the station, not ending up being there when the truck attack happened later.

She had texted Kuroba what had happened to her on the train ride home, so as not to confuse him and to explain why she wasn't talking.

It looked like that, for a while, she'd be voiceless from now on.

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

Yep, Irene is the one to lose her voice instead of Genta. And dang, that hurts.

No dialogue from her for the rest of the movie.

I hope the way it happened didn't sound stupid. Tea can spill and fly into someone else's mouth if the one holding it is startled enough, especially if the cup flew right at a person's face and they were talking.

And look at that, Conan seemed sad at the end there since he realized from how Irene had to respond without a word that he won't get to hear her anytime soon, or soon enough. That's pretty cute. X3

And yeah, she isn't getting involved in the truck thing, the way to the station is not the same way to Genta's and the others' houses, after all.
