Beetle hunting ~1~

AN: The start of the movie 13 arc. Hope you enjoy it!

Narrator pov. At Beika Forest~

Irene was with the Detective Boys and Agasa in the forest hunting for beetles.

Agasa seemed to have been told by Haibara about Irene reverting to being colorless, as when she arrived with them, he didn't look surprised, only understanding and sad.

As Edogawa climbed a high tree to catch one, Irene went and sat down under another one, taking out her sketchbook, if only to look through all the sketches, as she didn't feel like drawing yet.

When Edogawa called out that he had found a beetle, Irene looked up along with the others to see him holding one.

Ayumi and Mitsuhiko were happy before Genta exclaimed, "Yosh! I'll climb up too!"

Ayumi said, "That's impossible, Genta-kun."

Irene added, "Try to climb that high and you'll fall and get a concussion," as bluntly and emotionless as before, not looking at him as she looked back at her sketchbook.

Genta froze before Mitsuhiko added, "That's why I think you'd better not." 

Haibara added, "Agreed. The only ones who can climb that high would be either Edogawa-kun or monkeys."

Edogawa sarcastically replied, "Excuse me for being a monkey," while opening his container to place the beetle inside.

Agasa then suggested using the updated suspenders he gave Edogawa back at Agasa's house.

Edogawa took them out of his pocket as Agasa started happily explaining how they worked while Edogawa buckled one end of the suspenders to the branch.

After Genta buckled himself to the other end of the belt and pulled to signal he was ready, Edogawa pressed the button, which pulled Genta up until he hit his head under the branch.

Edogawa apologized sheepishly while wincing at Genta's pain, and Genta complained that he should've been more careful before being distracted by finding a beetle.

Irene stood up by then as Mitsuhiko and Ayumi spotted a rhinoceros beetle flying by them and followed it to another tree where a female beetle was.

Mitsuhiko then noticed the tape on the female beetle as he picked it up to show Ayumi, who called it terrible that someone would tape the beetle.

Agasa recognized what kind of tape it was, and after exposing his secret splurging to Haibara while explaining, he avoided the subject by offering to take the tape off.

As Mitsuhiko realized that a male and female beetle being together might mean the bugs are lovers, Irene thought, 'They could also be siblings, you two...' but didn't say anything as she watched Edogawa climb back down.

Ayumi declared that she'd name the beetles before deciding on Hikoboshi for the male and Orihime for the female, in reference to Tanabata.

Agasa took the tape off just as he started his usual quiz, which Irene decided not to participate in as she went to climb up and get Genta down from the tree, being slower than Edogawa at it.

She got there just as Genta realized he didn't know how to get down and said, "Ne... How do I get down?"

Irene sat on the branch above him and reached for the button, "Hakase, come here to catch Genta-kun."

Agasa looked over and stepped so he was under where Genta was before Irene pressed the button, which unbuckled the suspenders and made them pull away from Genta as he fell back down.

Agasa caught him safely as Irene unbuckled the buckle on the branch before jumping down and handing the suspenders back to Edogawa, "Here. Next time, don't forget it like that."

He nodded as he took them back, "Right. Sorry."

Genta then said, "Thanks, Irene."

She gave him a nod and replied, "It's nothing." Her tone was as flat and unfeeling as usual.

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

I know nothing much happened, but that's expected from the first part of anything by now, right?

And yes, I didn't include Hakase's quiz; I just mentioned it in the background, as I didn't want to make the chapter longer because of it.

And just so you guys know, I'm not including the police conferences since Irene wouldn't be a part of them, meaning those won't change anyway.
