Ian sat alone at the table in the small coffee shop near his work, he sighed as he finished his coffee and looked out the window at the falling rain. The coffee shop wasn't busy today, besides him, there were only four other customers. He picked up his phone off the table and checked the time, he was meeting Shayne here and he was late. He wasn't going to come at first, after what happened three days ago, but Shayne had begged him to meet up with him so they could talk and he had agreed. He wasn't in a rush to get back to work, so he decided to order another coffee and if Shayne hadn't shown up by the time he had finished it, then he was leaving. So, he got up and went to the counter, after getting his coffee he returned to his table and sat down, as he did his phone went off, signaling he had a new text message. He sighed, as he picked his phone up and looked at it, the message was from Shayne, so he read it.
S- I know I'm running late, I'm so sorry, dude! Class went longer than I thought, I'm changing now and I'll be there in 15!
Ian sighed again, as he put his phone back on the table and thought about what had happened three days ago between himself, Shayne, and the man Ian was still desperately in love with, Anthony. Of course, like always, thinking about Anthony made his heart ache and he began to think about everything that's happened, how he lost him all because of his own stupid jealousy.
It's been three days since he ran into Anthony and the first two days after he had stayed in bed too upset to face the world, today he decided that he needed to let Anthony go and move on with his life. Part of doing that was finally talking to Shayne, after ignoring his calls and texts for the last two days, he wasn't mad anymore and needed to know why Shayne did what he did. His thoughts were interrupted by Shayne coming into the coffee shop.
"Hey, Ian." Shayne greeted him quietly.
"Hey, Shayne."
"Let me go order my coffee and then we can talk, okay?"
"Okay."
Shayne took off his jacket and hung it on the back of a chair, before he went to the counter and ordered his coffee. He returned to the table and sat down across from Ian, he sighed sadly before he spoke.
"Ian, I want to apologize for what happened at the diner, I'm so sorry."
"Shayne, I just need to know why you did it?"
"I didn't do it to hurt you or Anthony, I swear. I only did it because I thought if I could get you two together in the same place; a place that holds so many special memories, that..."
"We'd realize we still love each other and get back together?" Ian said softly, cutting Shayne off.
"Something like that, yeah." Shayne admitted. "Do...do you hate me?"
"No, Shayne, I don't hate you, I never did." Ian answered sighing. "Your heart was in the right place, but as much as it kills me to say this...it's really over between Anthony and me. My stupid jealousy drove him away, I hurt him and I need to let him go."
"It's not too late, Ian. I..."
"Shayne, please, you have to accept it too and let it go, before you lose Anthony too." Seth said sadly, cutting him off.
"I'm so sorry, Ian." Shayne said sadly, as he took his hand and squeezed it gently.
"Yeah, me too."
