Saving Her Pt20 (Shartney)

 Shayne sat on the hard, plastic chair in the lobby of the Police station, with Damien, Ian, and Connor. They were waiting for Courtney, who was with Greene being interviewed by Detectives Reed and Benson. Shayne knew how good Greene was and how protective he was of his clients, but that didn't stop his nervousness, he wished he was in there with them supporting Courtney; they all did. Not being able to be with her only added to Shayne's feelings of being a failure as a boyfriend. He leaned back sighing and thought about everything that's happened to them and how this nightmare began.

 It's been two days since Courtney was released on bail, and ever since she's gotten out Shayne's noticed she seemed nervous and distracted, but whenever he'd ask her about it, she would blow it off saying she was fine and then change the subject. This morning, after getting dressed the five of them met Greene at the station for Courtney's interview. It's been an hour since it started, and Shayne couldn't wait for it to be over so he could be back by her side. His thoughts were interrupted by the door to the interview room opening and seconds later, an angry Benson stormed out, he looked into the lobby and saw them. He stared at them angrily for a few seconds, Shayne stood, Damien, Ian, and Connor came and stood beside him, all four stared back, before he shook his head disgusted and walked away. Seconds later, Greene, Courtney, and Reed came out, they talked at the door for a few seconds, before he left and they went to where the four of them were still standing.

 "Everything okay? Benson looked angry." Ian asked.

 "Oh, he's probably past angry now and gone straight to homicidal." Greene answered smiling, as they walked out of the station.

 "What happened?" Shayne questioned, as he took Courtney's hand.

 "He doesn't like that I ended the interview. He was attacking Courtney, trying to threaten her into confessing to murder." Greene said angrily.

 "He what?" Damien asked, all four becoming angry.

 "It's okay, guys, Greene shut him up by threatening to go to Captain Stone, so Reed kicked him out." Courtney explained smiling.

 "What happens now?" Shayne questioned.

 "Well, you five go home and try to keep your minds off of this crap and let me worry about everything." Greene answered smiling.

 "What...what about the trial?" Courtney asked nervously.

 "Nothing is set right now and if I have my way it'll never make it to a courtroom."

 "Thank you." She said quietly.

 "You're welcome, now get out of here and enjoy the rest of your day, I'll call you later." Greene said smiling, before they shook his hand and left.

**Meanwhile**:

 After the interview was over; thanks yet again to Benson's outbursts, Reed decided to let Benson cool off, before he tried to figure out what the hell had gotten into him. He went to his desk and sat down sighing, he leaned back in his chair and thought about being partners with Benson. He sighed again, as he looked at a picture on his desk of himself and Benson on their last fishing trip a few months ago. The man in the picture he knew and called friend, but this Benson on the case, he didn't know and it hurt. He didn't want to think his partner...his best friend was capable of becoming a corrupt cop, but he couldn't get rid of the bad feeling in his heart that he had.
