Damien paced the garage anxiously, while Ian was hiding out in the bathroom avoiding him. Damien knew coming here was a huge risk, but after talking to Shayne, he knew it was a risk he had to take. As he paced, he thought back to when this whole mess began. He had even surprised himself when he kissed Ian, but he had done what felt right to him. Ian had pulled away and without saying anything he walked away, locking himself in the bathroom, leaving Damien alone to wonder if he's completely screwed everything up between them. His thoughts were interrupted by Ian returning to the room, Damien stopped pacing and watched silently, as Ian paced angrily in front of him.
"Ian, I..."
"Nope! No, you...you don't get to talk right now, I do!" Ian said angrily pointing at him, as he continued pacing. "Damn you, Haas! You just couldn't let it go, could you?"
"Ian, please, I..."
"I said it's my turn to talk!" Ian said, cutting him off again. "You should have let me go, dammit! Why couldn't you just let me go?" He demanded, as he stopped pacing and looked at Damien, who stood quietly, staring at Ian. "Why?"
"Ian, I can't just let you walk away! I lo..."
"Don't finish that sentence, Haas!" Ian said, cutting Damien off once more.
"Why, Ian? Why are you so afraid of love? Of someone loving you?" Damien demanded upset.
"I won't let you!" Ian stated.
"First off, you don't get to make that decision for me! Secondly, it's too late, I already am and there's nothing I can do to change it, even if I wanted to, which I don't!" Damien said upset.
"Yeah, well there is something I can do about it! I can stay away from you and then you'll have no choice, but to find someone who's goo..." Ian trailed off, as he turned his back to Damien.
"Who's what, Ian?" Damien asked gently.
"Never mind, it doesn't matter." Ian replied sighing, still not looking at him.
"It matters to me." Damien said, as he touched Ian's hand.
"Damien, I've never begged anyone for anything in my entire damn life...but I'm begging you now! Let it go...let me go, please!" Ian said, as he hung his head, squeezing his eyes closed, keeping his back to him, and pulled his hand away.
"I can't, I love you, Ian." Damien replied. "I know about your past...how everyone who's ever said they loved you, has ended up hurting you, but I'm not them!"
"Damien...I can't." Ian said quietly.
"Can't or won't?" Damien demanded. "Dammit, Ian, I deserve a chance to prove my love to you! Don't punish me for what they've done, I'm not them." He added quietly, tears in his eyes, as he stared at Ian's back.
"It's not you I'm worried about, Damien...it's me." Ian admitted sadly, keeping his back to him.
"What? Why?" Damien asked confused, as Ian finally turned to face him, seeing the hurt and sadness in Ian's eyes ripped Damien's heart out.
"Damien, I've never been in love before, I have no idea how to be someone's boyfriend. I'm...I'm crazy, unpredictable, half the damn time even I don't know what's going on in here!" Ian said, as he pointed to his head. "I'm immature and..."
"Ian, stop." Damien said, cutting him off. "If you're trying to scare me off it's not going to work, because I don't care about any of that."
"You don't get it, Damien! I'm not the relationship type...I'll only end up hurting you." Ian said sadly, trying to hide the tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry, but I can't do this...I won't! Let me go, move on and find a guy who's like you!"
"Ian, I don't..."
"You don't get a choice...goodbye, Damien." Ian said, cutting Damien off, before he turned and walked away, leaving a heartbroken Damien standing there.
As Ian walked away, his heart broke a little more with each step he took, but he truly believed this was for the best; he didn't want to hurt Damien and knew that he would. He heard Damien get into his car and start it, he wanted to stop him, take him into his arms and never let go, but wouldn't...he couldn't do that to him, he cared too much about him. Hearing him drive away, ripped Ian's heart out, he sat on the ground leaning against the wall, his knees up to his chest, he wrapped his arms around them, buried his face into his knees, as he cried silently. It killed Ian to let Damien go, but at least now, he'd move on and find someone worthy of his love. If this was the right thing to do, then why did it feel so incredibly wrong?
