Danny's pov:
I was in the shower and had just rinsed the shampoo out of my hair when I heard my phone ringing in the bedroom. I quickly shut the water off and wrapped a towel around my waist before swiftly walking into the bedroom, the cool air making the hairs on my body stand on end.
When I picked up my phone I saw that it was Am who was ringing me and I was pretty sure it was about the text I had sent her earlier. Which was about Ava getting her first period.
"Hey babe." I said as I pressed my phone to my ear and closed the bedroom door.
"Hey. Do I need to come home?" She asked right away.
"Because of Ava? Nah. I've got it under control." I said and sat down on the bed.
"Are you sure?" She asked again, almost sounding like she was desperate to come home.
"Positive. I gave her one of your pads and once we realized it works just like a sticker we were fine." I explained. I heard Am chuckling on the other end as I told her about me and Ava figuring out how a pad works.
"I wish I was there now though, she's a woman now." Am said, her voice filled with awe.
"Oh no no no she's not a woman just yet. She's still my little girl!" I argued.
"Whatever you say." Am answered and I could bet that she was rolling her eyes right now.
"You might want to buy her some tampons though." She said turning serious again.
"Because...?" I asked not sure what she was on about.
"Because of her volleyball match tomorrow. Believe me, it's not pleasant to wear only a pad while you're wearing shorts and have to move a lot." She explained.
"Right." I simply answered, not being able to imagine what that's like just because I don't know what a period is like.
"Can't she use one of yours?" I asked.
"She could but I think she should start with some smaller ones." Am answered before exactly describing which tampons I should get for our daughter.
"You think you can do that?" She asked teasing me once she finished.
"Hey I'm sorry but I don't have a vagina to bleed out of so don't blame me for not knowing much about that stuff." I said defending myself.
"But I 'bleed out of my vagina' and we've been married for over a decade." She argued chuckling.
"Yeah and I know exactly how to deal with it, I know I need to give you chocolate, give you massages and cuddle you. I even know how to get the blood stains out of the bedsheets. I just don't know the technical stuff." I answered grinning.
"Alright alright. Call me if you need help though." She said while I heard someone in the background telling her to hurry.
"I will, but we'll be fine. Don't worry." I answered.
"Love you."
"Love you too." I told her before hanging up.
I put my phone down again before getting dressed. By the time I was ready I heard Ava talking to someone in her room indicating that Emma was here. I walked over to her room and knocked on the door before opening it.
"I'm just going out to get the groceries, can you make sure Liz and Jamie don't burn the place down?" I asked after greeting Emma.
"Sure." Ava answered simply before returning her attention back to Emma, making it clear that I could leave now.

I was on my way back carrying the shopping bags when I walked past a little bakery. I thought back to my conversation with Am and how I teased her by saying I need to feed her chocolate and decided to bring something home to celebrate Ava's first period. I walked in and decided on a chocolate cake. Because women (even though Ava is still my little girl) love chocolate, especially on their period, right...?
By the time I came home Ava and Emma were in the living room watching a movie.
"I bought chocolate cake!" I announced as I placed the bags on the kitchen counter.
Ava quickly joined me in the kitchen and got out plates and forks for the cake. Once I'd put all the groceries away I grabbed a knife and cut a few slices of cake.
"Because of your period." I said grinning at her as I handed her two plates for her and Emma. She rolled her eyes at me before turning around and going back to Emma.
I took the tampons I'd bought her upstairs and placed them on her desk in her bedroom before going to tell Liz and Jamie that there was cake downstairs.

I came with Ava to watch her volleyball match and by the time they were finished a woman walked up to me and asked me for a picture. I switched from being a Dad to being DannyFromTheScript in a split second and posed for the picture.
"You're welcome gorgeous." I said after she thanked me.
"Dad please..." Ava whined embarrassed as she joined me.
"What?" I asked as I raised my eyebrow.
"Just... Nevermind." She said rolling her eyes, reminding me so much of her mum.
"Let me make it up to you. Hot chocolate and doughnuts?" I said as I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and walked with her to the changing rooms.
"Hot chocolate and a muffin."
"Deal." I said laughing before she walked into the changing room and I waited outside for her.
A few minutes later she came out again wearing a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a sweater.
"Ready?" I asked as I took her bag from her and swung it over my shoulder.
"Yup." She answered and I wrapped my arm around her shoulder as we walked out.
We stopped at Starbucks on our way back where I told Ava to go and find a place to sit while I went to order. A few moments later I joined her with a hot chocolate for her, a cappuccino for me and a muffin for us both.
"Thanks." She said smiling as I placed the tray on the table.
"Cheers to your volleyball victory and your first period." I said grinning as I picked up my mug.
"You are so embarrassing sometimes." She whined as she took a bite from her muffin.
"It's my job as a father with a teenage daughter." I answered sipping my coffee.
"No it's not." She said laughing.
I laughed as well, enjoying our little father-daughter moment together.
