Warnings: blood

-----

Panic clawed at him as he ran through the forest, straight to the house of Doctor Carlisle Cullen. He gripped your body close to him, the feeling of sticky blood pushing him to run faster.

He didn't know what had caused the car crash. Garrett had wondered upon your beaten, unconscious body during a hunt. At first, he had planned to finish you off himself but, the closer he got, the more he realized that he couldn't harm you.

Carlisle was waiting for him outside of his house, his pale face scrunched in concern for his friend. "Garrett? What's happening?"

"I found her outside of the city." Garrett spoke hurriedly, speeding past Carlisle and into the house. "I think she's my mate but I don't know how to help her. I didn't know where else to go."

Carlisle studied you as Garrett laid you on Carlisle's couch. You head lolled to the side, your eyes closed loosely. A deep gash was spread across your forehead, blood dripping down the sides.

The doctor sighed beside Garrett as he felt for a pulse. "She's hanging on but barely. You may have to make a choice."

"What choice?"

"Garrett." Carlisle's voice was serious, his amber eyes locking with Garrett's crimson. Garrett's jaw clenched, his gaze landing on your unconscious form once more. He knew what his answer would be.

"Do it."

You couldn't remember a thing.

Your throat was burning, the surface you were lying on was hard against your back, and the sun seemed like it was right in front of you. Small noises filled your head, like the sound of birds and something small walking across grass.

You peeled your eyes open to look towards an unfamiliar ceiling. Sunlight flooded into the room and you sat up, trying your best to place your unfamiliar surroundings. It looked to be a study, with shelves of books stacked opposite the wall of windows.

Certain things looked different now - you could see the smallest specks of dust on the farthest window, tiny cracks in the glass. Your confusion was growing and you stood, feeling lighter than you had ever remembered.

As you continued to look around the room, you caught sight of your hand and gasped, holding it up towards the sun. The skin on your hand glimmered like diamonds, unlike anything you had ever seen before.

"What the fu-?"

"Oh good, you're awake!"

You spun, your chest suddenly feeling weird at the sight of this new man. You had never seen the brunette in your life, a tall man dressed in a black trench coat with pants to match. "Who are you? Where am I?"

"One question at a time, sweetheart." He grinned from where he was leaning against the doorway. "I'm Garrett. I'm the one who found you after your car crash?"

Car crash? You furrowed your brow as you tried to recall the events from days previous. Your memories felt faint, fuzzy but you could vaguely recall lying in your car before passing out.

"Where am I?"

"At a friend of mines. He's a doctor and you looked pretty bad when I found you."

You narrowed your eyes at him. "Why not call the police?"

"Didn't cross my mind." Garrett answered, his lips still tugged into an obnoxious smirk. "Now, if you'd follow me, I believe we have some things to discuss."

"I'm not following you anywhere." You told him, crossing your arms across your chest. "I'm still not convinced that you're not holding me hostage."

His laugh was full of amusement and he reached an arm out to you. "Come on. Things will start to make sense soon."

"Seriously back off." You glared at him, stepping back to avoid his grip.

Garrett rolled his eyes at you and began to step forward again before stopping. His own brow furrowed and he looked towards the ground, surprised when he saw a green vine wrapped around his ankle. "What?"

The vines began to grow the more he struggled and you watched with wide eyes as they pulled him backwards. Garrett's red eyes locked with your own. "Are you doing this?"

"How would I be doing this?" You shouted at him, still fascinated by the twigs and leaves that held this man captive.

Garrett laughed and leaned his head against the wall. "You're gifted, too. This would be super hot if you weren't so hostile right now."

You laughed this time, though yours was one of disbelief. "Okay, I've got to be hallucinating right now. What the hell is happening?"

"You're a vampire, sweetheart." Garrett told you, and your eyes widened. "We had to change you or else you'd die."

You shook your head frantically, looking between the plants and him. "You're lying. Vampires don't exist."

"Unfortunately he's right." Before you could blink, another man appeared beside Garrett, this one shorter and blonde. His eyes were gold and his face was kind. "I turned you three days ago."

You didn't know what to say. They had to be lying. Vampires weren't real, plants couldn't just appear and hold grown men against walls. You were still in your car, passed out and hallucinating while waiting for help.

"Garrett found you and brought you to me." The blonde continued to explain. "You had a pretty bad wound on your forehead and you would have bled out before we could have gotten you medical help."

Your thoughts began to sort themselves and you leaned back against the table you had woken up on. Nothing was making sense - what would happen to you now? Could you live a normal life?

"Why don't you calm down and release Garrett, and then we can talk more?" He suggested, motioning to the plants.

You shook your head. "I didn't do that."

"You did." The blonde nodded. "You're gifted, like some vampires are. Just try and calm down and that should release the vines."

Still skeptical, you closed your eyes and took a deep breath, trying to will your shoulders to relax. You felt something loosen in your chest as he exhaled and, when you opened your eyes again, the vines were beginning to unravel from Garrett's body.

He smiled once he was back on his feet, the grin charming and cheerful. "Now that the excitements over, I believe we have some things to talk about."

Your eyes lingered together for a moment before the blonde man turned, leaving the two of you to follow after him. Your thoughts wandered as you watched Garrett, and you squared your shoulders, bracing yourself for what was sure to be an interesting conversation.
