You rested your head against your folded arms, eyes staring out the window as rain fell from the sky. It was a quiet day in the Volturi castle - no missions for the guard, no trials for the kings.

Still, there was no sign of your mate.

You had moved to Volterra a couple of months ago to live with Alec. However, now that you were here, he barely spoke complete sentences to you. When he did, his responses were short and vague. You were beginning to lose hope that Alec would ever speak to you.

You heard your bedroom door open from your spot by the window, but didn't make any move to face the added person. You knew it was him, and you knew there was no point in trying to have a conversation with him.

Your heart felt heavy in your chest. How long could you live with your mate ignoring you?

You didn't notice you were crying until a tear hit your arm. You sniffled then, gently swiping away at the tears as they fell from your eyes. You hadn't cried over Alec before, but you were finally at your breaking point.

A hand was placed on your shoulder and you jumped harshly. Your wide eyes looked up to see Alec, who was looking down at you with concern written across his face. You quickly wiped away the rest of your tears before completely turning to him.

"Are you okay?"

You wanted to laugh. But you also wanted to scream at him. How were you supposed to answer that? 'Oh yeah I'm perfectly okay with the fact that my mate has been ignoring me since I moved here?' No.

"No." You whispered before you could stop yourself and looked away from Alec to the window. "I'm not okay. I'm tired of you not speaking to me or acting as if I don't exist. I moved to Volterra to be here for you and now you're hardly here for me. I'm losing my mind, Alec."

He was silent as he moved to sit beside you. Your shoulders tensed as he wrapped his arms around you, not used to the attention you were getting from him. You didn't want to get used to it, because God only knew how long this behavior was going to last.

His face was buried into your neck by the time he spoke again. "I'm sorry. I'm scared that something bad is going to happen to you so I hold you at arms length."

"It's hardly arms length." You whispered back.

"I'll do better." When you locked eyes again, his own were shining with emotion. "I don't want you to regret coming here. I want you here with me. I'll be better, Y/n."

You wrapped your arms around him, burying your face into the crook of his neck. "Promise?"

You felt his lips on the top of your head as he tightened his arms around you. "I promise."
