There was a boy I met in kindergarten
He was sweet, he said that I was smart
He was good at sports and people liked him
And at nap time once we shared a mat
I didn't sleep I sat and watched him breathing
Watched and dreamed for nearly half an hour
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Then he woke up

Jack and Mark were best friends when they were kids. Mark would do anything to protect Jack and he didn't care what anyone else thought of their friendship. They held hands and shared cookies, which for a child was a big commitment, their parents joked about them falling for each other.

"Jacki!" Mark smiled as he ran up to Jack after playing with the football the kids were given during their play-hours. He made the Irish boy feel special and he wanted to be with Mark all the time.

He pulled a scab off one time playing kick ball
Kissed me quick then pressed it in my hand
I took that scab and put it in a locket
All year long I wore it near my heart
He didn't care if I was thin or pretty
And he was mine until we hit first grade
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

"What's love?" Mark asked. (Baby don't hurt me!) Jack shyly looked up at the dark haired boy and answered his question, "It's when you care about someone more than anyone else... someone that you would do anything for." There was silence for a second or two before Mark spoke again, "Then I love you." He giggled and quickly pressed his lips to Jack's before running off to play his sports.

Jack felt his heart racing and he smiled to himself thinking that this happiness would last forever... which it would not.

Then he woke up

"You don't want to be seen with that loser Mark!" One of Mark's 'friend's' yelled and dragged him away. "Mark...?" Jack questioned sadly knowing without Mark he would be alone. "Don't talk to me loser!" Mark spat.

Tears hit the ground but Jack didn't remember them falling and that's when everyone around him starting laughing and yelling hateful slurs.

Last night I dreamed a horse with wings
Flew down into my home room
On its back there he sat
And he held out his arm
So we sailed above the gym
Across the faculty parking lot
My kindergarten boyfriend and I
And a horse with wings

"Get out of my way fag!" Mark shoved Jack into a locker as he walked past. They were now seniors. He couldn't even seen the boy he'd fallen for in kindergarten but despite that he still had feelings for Mark which tore him apart.

"Please Mark..." Jack whimpered. "What gives you the right to say my name! You're disgusting!" He growled at him before kicking him and walking away.

"I love you..."

Now we're all grown up and we know better
Now we recognize the way things are
Certain boys are just for kindergarten
Certain boys are meant to be alone
But I believe any dream worth having
Is a dream that should not have to end
So I'll build a dream that I can live in
And this time I'm never waking up

"I can't do this anymore," Jack sighed as he looked at the cars below him. He missed his kindergarten boyfriend, the one who hadn't cared but people change and it can't be stopped. He lost Mark. Mark had been manipulated to think like others did. That was the price of popularity.

And we'll soar above the trees
Over cars and croquet lawns
Past the church and the lake
And the try-county mall
We will fly through the dawn
To a new kindergarten
Where nap time is centuries long
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

"I love you too."
