SHIP:
Prinxiety

WARNINGS:
None

EXTRAS:
Not a Hercules AU! but the song is from the movie and the concept is similar - the only reason I'm saying it's not is because I see Virgil more as Meg than Phil (I'll probably do one of those in the future so suggest ships for it in the comments)

WORDS:
1023 (this took so much longer than it should have and it is all over the place)

"Go to Virgil Black, he will train you."

That's what Roman's father had said anyway however that appeared to be far from the truth when he actually arrived there. Virgil seemed to be hostile and was not up for the idea at all, as a matter of fact he seemed very against it and slammed the door in Roman's face however the prince-like man forced his way through and tried to convince the trainer. Virgil Black had much surprised Roman when he saw him because he seemed to be younger than Roman and he didn't have any muscles or anything this was not the trainer he'd expected at all however his father speaking so highly of him meant that Roman had to be trained by Virgil... even if it killed him.

So, ya wanna be a hero, kid?
Well, whoop-de-do!
I have been around the block before
With blockheads just like you
Each and everyone a disappointment
Pain for which there ain't no ointment
So much for excuses
Though a kid of Zeus is
Asking me to jump into the fray
My answer is two words

Virgil appeared very cynical of the whole idea. He didn't want to train Roman and he didn't seem completely convinced by Roman's story either... it seemed too good to be true. He showed the prince-like man his scars when he spoke about the pain his previous trainees had caused him, he'd gotten hurt trying to get them out of trouble and Roman had to admit he found it rather amusing for Virgil to call him kid when Roman was clearly the older of the two. He'd jumped on one of his old podiums, he'd pushed Roman out his house and outside, where he got struck with lightening trying to prove his point. Zeus clearly did want him to train the man in front of him. "OK!" He squeaked out, shaken from the lightening. Roman seemed ecstatic and let out a cheer. "You win, Oh gods, Oy vay!" He frowned as Roman asked if they could start right away.

I'd given up hope that someone would come along
A fellow who'd ring the bell for once
Not the gong
The kind who wins trophies
Won't settle for low fees
At least semi-pro fees
But no, I get the greenhorn

Virgil began to gather together the equipment so he could train Roman to a substantial amount however that didn't stop him from ranting about the previous 'heroes' he'd taught. He watched Roman, with his super strength lift an entire tree on the top of him, causing the trainer to sigh and call him a greenhorn and that he should stop fooling around and come help him clean up everything. He had to admit Roman's power did seem impressive but he had no idea how to actually use it.

I've been out to pasture pal, my ambition gone
Content to spend lazy days and to graze my lawn
But you need an advisor
A satyr, but wiser
A good merchandiser

Roman began to realise that although Virgil's supposed lack of motivation he was the best one to train him, he seemed to understand how that world worked and he would sell the idea of Roman being an hero... but there was something else appealing about the trainer only Roman chose to ignore it, he was with him to learn to become a hero and control his strength nothing else. He wasn't exactly focused as he loaded his bow and ended up lifting and firing Virgil instead of an arrow who just hit the target, "And oh!There goes my ulcer!" He winced in pain but did somewhat celebrate that Roman got close to the centre of the target.

I'm down to one last hope
And I hope it's you
Though, kid, you're not exactly
A dream come true
I've trained enough turkeys
Who never came through
You're my one last hope
So you'll have to do

Clearly Virgil wasn't exactly impressed with what was presented in front of him, Roman didn't have the stereotypical hero physique but then Virgil knew he also didn't meant the view people had of how he should look... but with Roman's super strength he knew muscles would be a good feature plus if he was going to sell him later as a hero they would perfect to pull people in. He head to admit though there was something about Roman that caught his eye and something that made his heart pound but he ignored it... Roman had only come to him to be trained not for anything else.

Demigods have faced the odds
And ended up a mockery
Don't believe the stories
That you read on all the crockery
To be a true hero, kid, is a dying art
Like painting a masterpiece, it's a work of heart

Roman seemed to be getting better as the days progressed and Virgil had to say he was happy with the progression. He was almost ready to be a hero but there was something within Virgil that made him now that he would miss these intimate times that him and Roman had spent alone together during training despite being against helping the man at first. He'd grown to like the arrogance Roman portrayed it was definitely a strong sign of character.

It takes more than sinew
Comes down to what's in you
You have to continue to grow

"Now that's more like it! You're ready to be a hero!"

I'm down to one last shoot
And my last high note
Before that blasted Underworld
Gets my goat
My dreams are on you, kid
Go make 'em come true
Climb that uphill slope
Keep pushing that envelope
You're my one last hope
And, kid, it's up to you
