After a few adjustments and laughs, you and Tracy were both wearing your dresses and were now putting on the final touches of your makeup. You were very pleased that she was there with you this time as you both got ready. You couldn't help but smile as you watched her applying her makeup. You hadn't realized how much you missed having someone with you while you were getting ready until that moment.
Then after she put down her lipstick and threw away the tissue that she used to set hers, she turned to you and smiled. Suddenly her face was replaced with your mom's. Your breath caught as you looked at her smiling back at you. But then as you blinked, her face was gone. You looked away as you tried to catch your breath again.
"Are you okay?" You heard Tracy ask.
You looked back up and smiled back at her as you fought to keep the tears back. "Yeah."
"Are you sure?" She asked as she moved your hair behind your ear as she gave you a worried look.
"Yeah." You said as you dropped your gaze. "I guess I'm just nervous."
"You of all people shouldn't be nervous." She said with a smile. "You must have done this a dozen times by now."
"Actually this will be my second ball. And my first actual dance never did official happen. And it was at the middle school." You said as you glanced around as you thought about the dance at the citadel.
You could feel the motions again as you flew across the dance floor with your dad first as Ignis played a song for you. Then Ignis had taken your hand and it seemed like the rest of the world had disappeared as the two of you danced across the floor. The whole thing had felt like a dream. And it was still one of your favorite memories with him.
"Well it was hard to tell by the way that you and Ignis were dancing last time." She said with a smile.
"You did pretty well with my dad." You added as you smiled at her.
"You saw that?" She asked as if she was mortified that she got caught.
"I did. You may have been nervous at first." You said as you smiled at her. "But you were able to catch on really quick."
"Well your dad is an amazing teacher." She said as she smiled.
"That he is." You smiled back. "And speaking of which. He should be waiting for us in the next room by now. Shall we join him?"
She took a deep breath. Then she smiled at you and nodded. "Yeah."
Paul was standing by the bed as he nervously adjusted his cufflinks when the bathroom door opened. His breath caught as he watched you come out. He couldn't help but to smile as you walked out wearing a bright red gown that gentle hugged you as it just barely touched the ground as you moved. He loved how it seemed to bring out the color in your cheeks as you beamed at him as you stood there.
