You sat on the roof top watching the stars. Your eyes squinted up at the twinkling stairs as you let out a deep breath.
"Why did you run?" Pete's soft voice came from behind you.
"I didn't run. I needed to get away." You replied calmly. Pete walked next to you and sat beside you.
"I like it up here." Pete commented.
"Nothing you say is gonna stop me." You mumbled. Pete turned to you, concern written all over his face. You refused to look at him.
"Why? Why won't you stay here? Is it because of me?" Pete begged.
"It's because I have a dream." You said.
"We all have dreams."
"Well, my dream is to go to college, do what I have to do, get a job, then settle down; maybe I can even have a few kids."
"Where's the but?"
"But, I've been doing it all backwards."
"(Y/N)..."
"I let myself get pregnant and then believed that we were ready for this. The day I miscarried, I cried for hours; partly because I lost my baby, but also because I was kind of glad I wasn't gonna be a mom so soon."
"You never told me that."
"Because you were so ready to be a dad! How could I Pete? I just...I need time to put my plan into play before I skip any steps." You stood from the roof and looked at Pete's betrayed face.
"Even if it means leaving you." You added. You started walking away when Pete's voice stopped you in your tracks.
"My dream is to be with you! My dream is to have a huge family and to wake up every morning to see your face. I want to wake up to the sounds of children laughing. A little girl who looks like you and a son...someone who can look up to me. I want all that, with you!" Pete said.
"I'm sorry." You whimpered. You continued to walk away and heard Pete sniffle.
"Life breaks plans ya know." He stated.
"Yup, and in gonna fight damn hard to keep mine." You sighed, leaving Pete, for what would be the last time you'd see him for almost 13 years.
